About

My passion for woodworking started when I was a junior at Roseville High School in the late 70’s. Although I didn’t do any woodworking for years, I never forgot the feeling of accomplishment from turning out a wood piece made from scratch. My wife mentioned she needed a certain type of book holder on wheels in her classroom that she was unable to find anywhere else. This became a challenge and started my creative juices flowing for woodworking once again. Soon our garage became a small woodshop and I was turning out all sorts of classroom projects, in addition to items for our grandchildren.

One of my favorite things to do is bbq/smoke for my family. In order to fully appreciate this experience, I decided I wanted a high quality cutting board, as well as a functional one that would be beautiful enough to leave out on display in our kitchen. I love my Big Green Egg smoker and I was inspired to combine my two passions, smoking and woodworking. I was hell-bent on designing a cutting board that would compliment my smoked meats, as well as give me something my family would enjoy.

I worked diligently designing and creating the perfect experience, which included a cutting board. I wanted one that would be thick, strong enough, and showed off the beauty of a variety of fine woods. I am very exacting with what I create and making one I could live with was challenging, but not impossible. Once completed, it not only gave me a great presentation for my family BBQ’s, but it also reminded me how much I enjoy working with my hands.

That same winter, I gave my handcrafted boards out to a couple of family members as Christmas gifts. Every member of my family who saw the finished product wanted one of their own. As I continued to make the boards, I posted one on my Facebook page and a few friends contacted me, asking if I sold them. Up to that point, it hadn’t even crossed my mind to sell them. I made the first few boards to sell to friends. Before I knew it, the cutting boards took off like I never imagined they would! Word spread and I haven’t been able to make them fast enough. Soon I was adding to my woodworking tool collection to better produce the highest quality board as quickly as possible.

I describe myself as a perfectionist and hold myself to high standards for just about everything I do… this includes my boards. I have finally made a cutting board I’m proud to have my name on. I pride myself on consistently exceeding my customers’ expectations. The evolution of my designs acclimate beauty with convenience.

I believe that my work is an extension of who I am and I know my genuine dedication to perfection drives each piece I create to its finest quality. I am actually a certified electrician and have worked for the same company since 1983. I worked my way up to General Superintendent and for the last 35 years, I have watched the company become one of the largest residential electrical contractors in Northern California.

I now carry the same desire for excellence into my woodworking and JacksBoards. All of my boards are built with a focus on quality construction and finish. They are designed to have a bold appearance and thickness that make them feel like you are holding quality and will be the last cutting board you’ll ever want to purchase. They are made out of some of the finest wood-grades, ranging from walnut to purple heart. No two boards are alike. JacksBoards work well with any kitchen design.
