With so many choices, why buy from JacksBoards?
I custom design each of my cutting boards so that no two are alike. I take pride in being a one-man operation as it allows me to maintain and control the quality of my pieces.
How are my boards made?
My boards take several days to complete. The process begins with the purchase of dense, hard woods that have a fine grain. I generally use Maple, Walnut and Purpleheart. The slabs of lumber are then flattened and straightened, which is a time-consuming, but necessary, process in order to produce a high quality board.
Once the wood is flat, straight and just the right thickness, I rip the lumber into random widths with my table saw. My favorite part of the entire process is next, I design the striped patterns of the boards. I put on my headphones with a little Collective Soul or Kid Rock and away I go.
Once my design is finished, the strips of wood are glued and clamped together tightly for a full day or more. Once dry, I hand scrap the excess glue and run each board through the planer. The final stage (and most labor intensive of all) is the sanding. To be sure I get the smooth finish JacksBoards are known for, I start off with 80 grit paper in the drum sander and work my way up to 220 grit by hand.
Without delay, I brand it with my logos and hand rub it with a fine Walnut oil that gives JacksBoards the beautiful finish that my customers have come to expect.
